GlamModelz Blaze Starr

Written By: GlamModelz on March 13, 2009 4 Comments

GlamModelz Magazine is pleased to introduce a new face to the Fashion, Glamour, Beauty Modeling industry, Blaze Starr of Port Allen, Louisiana. Her obvious beauty is matched not only by her desire to succeed as a model, but the amazing potential that she possesses. We look forward to seeing many great things from Blaze Starr, in the very near future.

Blaze-Cover-01-border-web.jpgGlamModelz Magazine: Welcome to GlamModelz Magazine Blaze!
GlamModelz Magazine: Have you had the support of Family, Friends and loved ones with your modeling?
Blaze: Most of my family is very focused on educational advancement. So this area of my life never really interested them. Although some of them are my best supporters when I really need them to be.

GlamModelz Magazine: What are your thoughts on the whole escort issue? Blaze: When you are starting out, you always want to bring a friend to help you through this new thing. But it’s not always the best route to taste. I’ve had friends (female) steal my spotlight or completely piss my photographer off. But I’ve never brought a male escort. Dudes are way too over protective when it comes to sexy shoots. If he can’t trust you to pull this off on your own, you’re not ready to do it yourself. Let’s be adults here. You’re getting paid (hopefully), not your escort.

GlamModelz Magazine: What would you like to see change in the industry from a model standpoint? Blaze: More photographers that understand that if you are looking to get paid, understand that so am I. This is a paying industry. Nothing is free including time. If you can pay big money models from the east and west coast, then you can pay little ol’ me from the south.

Blaze-glam-06-web.jpgGlamModelz Magazine: What gets you motivated everyday to stay in shape and look your best at all times? Blaze: The kids! I teach dance 40+ hours a week. I’m a role model, so I have to look my best at all times. Besides, who wants a fat dance teacher?

GlamModelz Magazine: How do you handle the inappropriate offers and sometimes rude individuals when they contact you for a session together? Blaze: I ignore them. What’s the use in wasting my time? You can be polite and tell them no thank you. But some are really persistent and you just have to let it go.

GlamModelz Magazine: Your thoughts on TFP or TFCD sessions in general? Blaze: When I was first starting out they were what I needed to learn the biz. And you know I still set a number that I will do each year. But don’t overdo it. Some photographers take advantage of this and cheat you out of a great experience. But getting paid is why you get in the industry any way right?

GlamModelz Magazine: Any suggestions to models about wardrobe? What to have and where to find deals? Blaze: I go shopping in small shops in whatever town I’m in. I love loud colors and vintage items that I can mix and match with contemporary gear. Get out of your comfort zone and buy crazy things. Work them in and test it out. All the photographer can tell you is it doesn’t go with your concept.

GlamModelz Magazine: What excited you the most when you first started modeling? Blaze: Seeing myself. I was a total geek growing up. I was shy, dorky, and boney. It’s crazy. But once I got some self-confident and learned to do hair and makeup, I was rocking. I was a flower blooming on the screen, print, and camera. I was unstoppable after that. It took me awhile to get that “sexy look” or that “naughty look”. But once I got it, it was on.

Blaze-glam-09-web.jpgGlamModelz Magazine: Facial expressions are a big part of a photo session, how and where did you learn this? Blaze: OMG! This part took me forever to grasp. But I just had to practice in the mirror. In the beginning the photographers have to give you keywords or mold you into the facial motions that are needed. But believe me when I tell you it comes with practice. There are a few that this comes naturally to, but I am not one.

GlamModelz Magazine: Do you feel that flexibility and diversity are important to a model portfolio? Blaze: Absolutely! No one wants to be type cast. That means you don’t want to get locked down into one area. I was doing sexy urban shots forever. But recently broke into fashion and glam. I never thought I was the type for glam or fashion. But you have to try everything at least once and see if it something that you can do. I wouldn’t suggest a 100lb model to go pose for an urban magazine or anything, but just put yourself out there and see what is available for you.

GlamModelz Magazine: How do you handle rejection? from photographers, agencies and your piers? Blaze: It’s hard. No one wants to be rejected. You just have to take it in stride and learn from it. If it’s your fault or theirs, figure out how to not fall back into this situation and harden your shell. It never stops, believe me. I haven’t always been the girl picked. They want a blond or big butt, or non-ethnic (I’ve gotten that). It hurts but hey, you are picture perfect for someone’s project. I guarantee!

Blaze-glam-10-web.jpgGlamModelz Magazine: How do you handle imperfections.. And how important do you feel professional make up is to a model. Blaze: Imperfections are awesome! You’re “imperfection” might be your goldmine. A mole, freckles, pointy nose, big feet, whatever it is, it makes you different from the next person. I have freckles, big feet, and I’m vertically challenged (short). But that’s what makes me me. And professional makeup is the way to go every time. It’s something that EVERY model needs, even the professional models. Have you seen some of the top models in the world without makeup? Awwwww! Makeup makes and breaks and photo. Take my word from it. It helps to take some classes on it too! A makeup artist isn’t always available. So you might have to fend for yourself.

GlamModelz Magazine: If you had one thing to tell a model just entering the industry what would that be? Blaze: Check references! Don’t go into anything blind. Fully read all contracts and releases. Make sure that you cover your butt. Make sure all agreements are solid BEFORE you travel. Get things in writing and never believe that have to degrade yourself to get big the business. Just be professional.
