GlamModelz Magazine is pleased to introduce a new face to the Fashion, Glamour, Beauty Modeling industry, LaToya of San Antonio, TX. Her obvious beauty is matched not only by her desire to succeed as a model, but the amazing potential that she possesses. We look forward to seeing many great things from LaToya in the very near future.

LaToya-Glam-Cover-m-01-fina.jpgGlamModelz Magazine: Welcome to GlamModelz Magazine LaToya ! GlamModelz Magazine: How did you get your start in the business? LaToya: My grandma owned a beauty and barber college so they always did  fashion shows and hair shows. My mom modeled so they started entering me into baby modeling contests at about 3 years old. So, I wanted to be like my mommy, plus we all sing so being in the spotlight has always been a natural high for me.

GlamModelz Magazine: What are your goals personally and with your modeling career? LaToya: I would like to follow some of the same success as Tyra Banks and Iman, with exposure in national and European publications. I would also like to get involved in television and movies one day and use my face as a forum for other women as inspiration for whatever they are trying to overcome.

GlamModelz Magazine: Posing 101 any suggestions to newer models coming into the business? LaToya: I would suggest that models coming into the business, pay attention to everything around them. Look at magazines and television for inspiration and practice in the mirror to see what fits your look and figure. I would suggest that they learn how to wear things that enhance their bodies, that causes less work for the photographer. I think we as women should embrace our flaws and allow ourselves to morph into that women you always wanted to be in front of the camera.

LaToya-07.jpgGlamModelz Magazine: What have been your greatest successes to date? LaToya: I would say for one getting the cover of this magazine. Also being able to travel the world performing, I have been to several different countries and it really expanded my horizons.

GlamModelz Magazine: When working with a photographer do you bring your own concepts and idea’s as well as working with theirs? LaToya: Yes, I think its important to have your own concept and ideas. I think both model and photographer should discuss ideas that way both parties are pleased and get the shots they both want. If a model has no say or input, it makes for a unhappy model and disappointed photographer.

GlamModelz Magazine: What are your thoughts and issues with Implied and Nude posing ?
LaToya: I think it can be beautiful if done tastefully but it is hard because what is tasteful for one person may not be for another. I love when shadows are involved. Implied are nice as well;I think that a model should be comfortable if she/he decides to do this type of modeling and make sure they can deal with any comments, negative or positive. Nudes are so controversial because one pose can change the whole feel of a shot therefore, models should be aware of what image they want others to see.

GlamModelz Magazine: Have you had the support of Family, Friends and loved ones with your modeling?
LaToya: Yes, my family is very supportive. My mom is more reserved and likes the when I have a ton of clothes on, but she loves and supports me either way. My sister models as well so she is always great for constructive criticism.

LaToya-09.jpgGlamModelz Magazine: What are your thoughts on the whole escort issue?
LaToya: I think a model should have an escort if it’s the first time shooting with a photographer and if they don’t feel comfortable. I also think that it is important that the model isn’t hindered by the escort being there. If that is the case the escort should wait in another room or just stay until the shoot starts. Models need to be careful of all the con artist and dangerous individuals  masquerading as reputable photographers. So research should be done before the shoot takes place.

GlamModelz Magazine: What would you like to see change in the industry from a model standpoint? LaToya: I would love to see more women of color nationally recognized. The majority of women of color are given more of a chance in men’s publications than high fashion magazines. I would like it to get to the point where I can look at a magazine and be able to count how many women of color are in it. I would also like to see the industry have more of a variety of heights and sizes on the runways. I have seen women 5’3 be able to rock the runway better that some 5’10 models.

GlamModelz Magazine: What gets you motivated everyday to stay in shape and look your best at all times?
LaToya: I get motivated by skimming through other magazines and seeing other women in great shape. It makes me more competitive. I also would hate for my photographer have to airbrush out everything that identifies itself with my natural body.

GlamModelz Magazine: How do you handle the inapropriate offers and sometimes rude individuals when they contact you for a session together? LaToya: I simply thank them for the consideration but I am not interested in that type of project, and good luck with all your future endeavors. If they are rude I simply don’t respond. I don’t think there is any gain in going toe to toe with an individual who has lost your respect. Like my mom always says :Kill em with KINDNESS”

LaToya-02.jpgGlamModelz Magazine: Your thoughts on TFP or TFCD sessions in general?
LaToya: I think that TFP and TFCD are great options for models and photographers alike to build and expand their portfolios. Everyone can’t always afford to spend thousands of dollars to start a portfolio, this options makes it possible to work toward your dreams.

GlamModelz Magazine: Any suggestions to models about wardrobe? What to have and where to find deals?
LaToya: I am a huge thrift store shopper, and I think its absurd to spend a lot of money on garments you might only where once. I always look at shoots online and in magazines and go find similar looks at places like Goodwill and Salvation Army.

GlamModelz Magazine: What excited you the most when you first started modeling?
LaToya: I loved being able to be and feel like someone else. I am a creative minded person so this really stimulates my mind. I love how when people look at a photograph and it makes them say “wow” and they get inspired or motivated .

GlamModelz Magazine: Facial expressions are a big part of a photo session, how and where did you learn this?? LaToya: I think learning facial expressions never stops. I am constantly learning by getting in the mirror and just doing different things with my face or mimicking other people’s expressions.

GlamModelz Magazine: Do you feel that flexibility and diversity are important to a model portfolio? LaToya: I think it is very important to show diversity and flexibility. You want people to think you could pull of any look because it leads to more jobs. If a model only wants to do one look then, in that case, it isn’t necessary. For instance, some models strictly do pinup so they would want to have that style throughout their entire portfolio. I want to do a variety of looks that I have never attempted before so I can always be a leader in all things new and unique.

LaToya-03.jpgGlamModelz Magazine: How do you handle rejection? from photographers, agencies and your piers?
LaToya: I handle it by moving forward to the next. I have realized that there is always going to be someone who isn’t a fan or just wants someone else for the job. I also have realized there is always someone who IS a fan and loves your look. Simply, let that agency, photographer or peer know you are thankful for the consideration and to keep you in mind for future projects. I have had some photographers say I am just not what they are looking for, but after time and continuing to update my portfolio some have contacted me later on for work. You never want to burn a bridge just because someone says “no”. Always keep it professional and appreciative.

GlamModelz Magazine: How do you handle imperfections.. and how important do you feel professional make up is to a model. LaToya: I think a model should learn to love their imperfections and how to pose so you can disguise them. I have scar on my leg but I have learned to model so that it isn’t noticeable. I always let my photographer know what I am self conscience with and we act accordingly. I think it is very important to learn how to do your make up for the camera or hire someone to do it, make up brings out the beauty in the model but also covers blemishes and imperfections. Make up adds drama to any photo shoot so it’s important that you wear it on camera.

GlamModelz Magazine: If you had one thing to tell a model just entering the industry what would that be?
LaToya:
To know that there is only one you and no one can do you better than you can!
