GlamModelz Magazine: Thanks for making time in your busy schedule Melisa, How did you get your start in the business? Melisa: A friend of mine proposed that I should get into modeling and posted a couple pictures of me on-line. After that I received proposals from a couple photographers and started networking from there.

GlamModelz Magazine: What are your goals personally and with your modeling career? Melisa: I’d love to make it big, what model doesn’t?  Being recognized at least on the national level would be such a great accomplishment.

GlamModelz Magazine: Posing 101 any suggestions to newer models coming into the business? Melisa: Exaggerate and do not be afraid to over-do something or to try anything new because you could be missing out on an amazing shot and what may seem crazy may not look it in a photo.  Also practicing is important.

GlamModelz Magazine: What have been your greatest successes to date? Melisa: Well getting this cover has definitely been a success. I also am one of the models for a new clothing line called Sacred Soul. There are more things in the works coming up so keep a look out.

GlamModelz Magazine: When working with a photographer do you bring your own concepts and idea’s as well as working with theirs? Melisa: I try to add a little something to the shoot, but I mainly like to expand or elaborate on the photographers’ concept.

NCI_9110eeRS.jpgGlamModelz Magazine: What are your thoughts and issues with Implied and Nude posing? Melisa: I think it’s great especially when it’s done artistically. I also think it’s for models who are comfortable doing that type of modeling and I respect those that do a great job capturing those beautiful images.

GlamModelz Magazine: Have you had the support of Family, Friends and loved ones with your modeling? Melisa: I sure do and I’m so thankful for that. Their opinions matter a lot to me and knowing that they have my back and look forward to seeing my success really give me that extra boost of encouragement.

GlamModelz Magazine: What are your thoughts on the whole escort issue? Melisa: I know it can be frustrating for the photographer and model depending on the escort, and I have heard the horror stories, but I do think the model should be able to bring someone with her/him if they for some reason feel the need and as long as it’s someone who will not hinder the shoot in any way. I always say better to be safe than sorry.

GlamModelz Magazine: What would you like to see change in the industry from a model standpoint? Melisa: For people to represent themselves in a professional manner especially if they want to be taken serious.

GlamModelz Magazine: What gets you motivated everyday to stay in shape and look your best at all times? Melisa: Just knowing that you are representing and selling yourself. You want to be recognized in a positive way and if you don’t take care of yourself or your appearance you won’t get that positive acknowledgment.

NCI_9090eebwRS.jpgGlamModelz Magazine: How do you handle the inappropriate offers and sometimes rude individuals when they contact you for a session together? Melisa: Ignore them ha ha, simple as that. I wont waste my time on pervs.

GlamModelz Magazine: Your thoughts on TFP or TFCD sessions in general? Melisa: I think it’s a beneficial way for people to collaborate and help one another out as long as both parties benefit from the experience and the terms are clear and followed through as previously agreed upon. I know a lot of the times it doesn’t end up working out that way and the situation can get ugly, but I always say you should go into any shoot feeling comfortable enough to know that wont happen between either party.

GlamModelz Magazine: Any suggestions to models about wardrobe? What to have and where to find deals? Melisa: I’m still trying to figure that out myself. One thing that I do know is that the pieces of clothing that you least expect would work, are the ones that end up working out. I’ve also been told to go to consignment shops or thrift stores for a more creative approach without breaking your budget.

GlamModelz Magazine: What excited you the most when you first started modeling? Melisa: The experience as a whole and being able to see yourself in a photo you’ve helped create. Also seeing other people’s positive reactions gave me a sense of accomplishment and that was an awesome feeling.

NCI_9050ers.jpgGlamModelz Magazine: Facial expressions are a big part of a photo session, how and where did you learn this? Melisa: I know it’s so important to be able to convey and express yourself through nonverbal communication because that’s the only way you get any messages across in a picture. It’s definitely a learning process and something you have to practice. I’m always practicing in mirrors around the house (ha ha) but it’s the best way to learn your own facial expressions. One of my favorite photographers gave me real good advice when he told me to think or picture something in your head to help you capture the emotion you’re going for. I can almost compare it to acting.

GlamModelz Magazine: Do you feel that flexibility and diversity are important to a model portfolio? Melisa: Of course, the more flexibility and diversity a model has the more well rounded and experienced  they are which can lead to a broader career.

GlamModelz Magazine: How do you handle rejection? from photographers, agencies and your piers? Melisa: I take it as a learning experience and not so much of a rejection. I’ll just do my best to improve whatever was not accepted and move on. There will always be someone who has to say something negative and if you dwell on it you’ll never get anywhere.

GlamModelz Magazine: How do you handle imperfections? And how important do you feel professional make up is to a model? Melisa: Everyone has imperfections and thank goodness for photoshop! Ha ha! As a model I think you have to try and do your best to work with any imperfections and make the best of them. As far as make-up, it’s always nice to have a pro take care of you especially if there are some areas that they know how to conceal better so yes I do think it’s important.

GlamModelz Magazine: If you had one thing to tell a model just entering the industry what would that be? Melisa: To have fun and enjoy the experience.
