GlamModelz Magazine interviews Glam Model ‘JEM, of Philadelphia, PA. JEM, is a veteran model, with many publication credits, JEM is a trend setter in the Glamour Modeling Industry and we are proud to have her in our own publication.
GlamModelz Magazine: Let’s get started! Tell me about your background…how did you get started in the modeling industry? JEM: I actually got very lucky and randomly was found by a local photographer in my area. I was just a natural, and fell into it very quickly and easily. I instantly got tons of contacts and started full time in no time, which is an unusual case in this industry. I never really thought about modeling and never pursued it before I started. I would have never thought all that would have led to this.
GlamModelz Magazine: You certainly have a unique look Tell us how you’ve developed the look and style you have now. JEM: I’m not really sure honestly. I’d like to think I have numerous styles. I get inspired by so many different things, and I like to bring them all together and kind of create my own style. I definitely like to be different and wear “out of the ordinary” things. I like to show confidence and character in my style.
GlamModelz Magazine: What has been your favorite photo shoot? Was it the photographer, the theme, or something else? JEM: I’d have to say my favorite shoot to date is my shoot with Julian Wilde in Portland. We had such a great team and it was so much fun! Everyone’s creativity flowed and it was so different from any other shoot I’ve done. Not to mention we got some pretty amazing shots out of it.
GlamModelz Magazine: What is the funniest story you have from a photo shoot? JEM: The funniest story is probably when I was at Marcus Lopez’s studio in Dallas. We were in the middle of shooting our last set when the light fixture on the ceiling randomly fell and hit me over the head. It was so shocking and kind of painful, but we all couldn’t help but laugh. I took a few minutes, shook it off, and kept shooting. Those pictures were pretty awesome too.
GlamModelz Magazine: Do you have a style of modeling you prefer? JEM: I prefer art modeling over any other type of modeling. Don’t get me wrong, I love all types of modeling, but I just love how timeless and beautiful nudes can be. For me, modeling a bunch of clothes is much more difficult than just modeling, well me. I model all sorts, from fashion to glamour, and I like to morph them all into each other and I just make it my own.
GlamModelz Magazine: What or who inspires you as a model and why? JEM: Females in general. One main reason I model is to show the beauty in the woman’s body. So many women are ashamed or embarrassed, and I want to show with my art, the beauty of it all. I very much believe that nudity is NOT necessarily sexual, but beautiful and natural.
GlamModelz Magazine: What other styles of modeling are you most interested in? JEM: Of course I love high fashion modeling. Fun, intricate outfits are always fun. It’s always fun to have a full team, with hair, makeup, and a stylist. I definitely love structured shoots, but I could not do them all the time.
GlamModelz Magazine: What challenges do you face in this industry? What would you change about it, if you could? JEM: Well, competition is a big one, but for me, I don’t really think its a big issue like some others. We are all people, we should all be friends. But sometimes girls, or even photographers can be really rude and stuck up, its sad really. I’m all for helping out a fellow friend, but others surely don’t feel the same way. I wish we could all just get along really, we all work together, with the same people…it would just make sense.
GlamModelz Magazine: What are your goals and ambitions for your modeling? Other goals? JEM: My goal in modeling is different from most girls. I want to be a well known art gallery model all around the world. I want to be in hundreds of paintings, sculptures, and photographs in galleries world wide and just be well known for my art and beauty.
GlamModelz Magazine: What sort of experiences have you had with various photographers? Who do you like to work with? JEM: I’ve had mostly good experiences, I’ve been very fortunate. I’ve made friends with most of the people I encounter and work with. I like to work with creative, fun, laid back people. I definitely love having fun during shoots, so I prefer shooting with people who feel the same. Some people take it way to seriously, and that can be frustrating sometimes. I feel that a good friendship and connection will lead to a better shoot than people who are there to “just do a job.”
GlamModelz Magazine: What qualities should Photographers/MUA’s/Stylists, etc. have to work with you? JEM: I’ve worked with all qualities of teams. I have worked with some very well known photographers, MUAs, and hair stylists but have also worked with brand new amateurs as well. I work with more experienced people regularly, but occasionally I will work with less experienced. I understand that everyone must start somewhere, and I’m all for helping someone get there
GlamModelz Magazine: Tell us about your biggest accomplishment to date or what makes you most proud. JEM: My biggest accomplishment…probably my big interview/documentary. I cant tell you what for yet, but its pretty awesome.
GlamModelz Magazine: What advice do you have for new models? JEM: Just keep going. It usually starts out hard and takes time, but hard work will always pay off. It is true, who you know is a lot to due with it, but network your butt off and GET to know the right people. Do your homework and know your goals, always walk in YOUR right direction and do what you need to do to keep stepping forward. The biggest thing is network, network, network.
GlamModelz Magazine: In addition to modeling, do you have other skills/interests/talents in which you excel? JEM: Well, I like to sew and make clothes and fun costumes and props for shoots. I’m a designer at heart, I love designing pretty much everything from clothes to interior design. I just love using my imagination. I also love traveling, obviously and have so many future travel plans on my agenda.
GlamModelz Magazine: What other interesting facts would you like GlamModelz readers to know about you or is there anyone you’d like to thank? JEM: I’m really just a regular, dorky, fun girl. I like to play around and have fun with life. I pretty much live, eat, breath, and sleep modeling. I shoot every day and travel constantly, I really couldn’t imagine myself in any other career. I love every minute of it. Of course all the support from my friends, family, and significant others is always important and gives me the positive encouragement to always move forward in my life and my passion.
