GlamModelz Magazine is pleased to conduct this interview with the beautiful and talented: Glam Model Nichole Phoenix. Nichole comes to use from Seattle,WA. Nichole, has a unique style that is all her own. With creative posing, beautiful features and expression, Nichole is quickly becoming a recognizable face within the Glamour Modeling Industry.
GlamModelz Magazine: How did you get your start in the business? Nichole: I got in the modeling business actually by complete accident. In the winter of 2009 I moved to Washington, DC. I weighed 247lbs and I decided to change my life. I hired a personal trainer, taught myself how to eat right and with diet and exercise lost 110lbs in about a year. I started modeling to give myself some confidence. I was bullied most of my life in high school, had a series of several bad relationships and nothing left in me. While doing these shoots I discovered I am a natural model, it brought me so much happiness and confidence! I just I love being in front of the camera! Started posting these pictures on facebook, people started to notice me and inquire me about doing some modeling gigs. At first I did it just for fun, but in the last 6 months I decided to quit my day job and pursue modeling as a career choice!
GlamModelz Magazine: What are your goals personally and with your modeling career? Nichole: My goals as a person and a model are one in the same. I want to inspire people to be the best they can be! I am currently in the middle of writing a book discussing my weight loss story, meal ideas, etc. I hope to become one of the top glamour models in the industry to prove that you can be whatever/whoever you wanna be! I want start a clothing and shoe line! Most of all I just want to be best person I can be, inspire people around the world.
GlamModelz Magazine: Posing 101, any suggestions to newer models coming into the business? Nichole: Newer models, should always go through there film, sudden the images that look good, the poses that look horrible, and there facial expressions! Practice makes perfect!
GlamModelz Magazine: What has been your greatest success to date? Nichole: I believe my greatest success to date if loosing 110lbs. It was the hardest thing I have ever had to do in my life. Not only are you changing your mind set, your body but your emotional mind set too! Although it was the hardest thing I have had to do, it has been the THE MOST rewarding experience of my life. Not only do I feel better about myself, I am healthy and happy. I get to inspire people. I get emails all the time about how my story has inspired them to change their life and loose weight. They even tell me how much they have lost! I feel helping others with believing in themselves is my most greatest success!
GlamModelz Magazine: When working on concepts for upcoming shoots, how much thought or effort do you put into it? Where does your inspiration come from? Nichole: When it comes to photoshoots, I usually plan them out. I pay attention every single detail right down to the make-up I am using. I take my image very seriously. This is my image I am selling, why would I not take the time to plan everything out.
GlamModelz Magazine: What are your thoughts and issues with implied and nude posing? Nichole: My thoughts are pretty simple when in comes to implied/nude posing. They human body is simply beautiful. If you don’t want to be naked, then don’t be a model. Our body’s are the clients caves, we are simply there to help then create their vision. If you are scared to be nude, I feel you are scared to be yourself. It’s your body, embrace it, love it, and show it off!
GlamModelz Magazine: Have you had the support of family, friends and significant other in regards to your decisions for your modeling career to date? Nichole: My family and Friends have been very supportive of me in my career choices and I know they will always be there behind me cheering me on!
GlamModelz Magazine: What are your thoughts on the whole escort issue? Nichole: I never judge people for what they decide to do with their life or their career choices. Who am I say if there is an issue with it or not? As long as they aren’t hurting anyone, being a good person and friend then to me I see nothing wrong with it.
GlamModelz Magazine: What would you like to see change in the industry from a model’s standpoint? Nichole: I personally have not had anything bad experiences in the industry. Only thing I would change is this sick obsession with girls being super skinny, starving themselves. It’s just not natural. I wish in this modeling world we can all just eating right, exercise, and be happy.
GlamModelz Magazine: What gets you motivated everyday to stay in shape and look your best at all times? Nichole: I think what motivates me to be best the can be is knowing that I inspire others with my story. I also love feeling good, looking good, eating right, exorcising and it’s just normal now to me be this way.
GlamModelz Magazine: How do you handle the inappropriate offers and sometimes rude individuals when they contact you for a session together? Nichole: Honesty, it just depends on what the situation is when in comes to inappropriate behavior. Generally I ignore it, I don’t even give the people the opportunity beyond their “offer” or “comments” to go any further. If I was approached in person. I would simply smile at them and say “no thank you” or “I’m sorry you feel that way”. I try my best to always be positive. Normally when people bully you they have other issues going on. You can’t really help them, other then just remain positive and feeding into there behavior.
GlamModelz Magazine: Your thoughts on TFP or TFCD sessions in general? Nichole: I feel doing TFP or TFCD is an awesome idea of you both are mutually benefiting from it. Since you both are taking the time, if should be mutually benefiting for both parties. I am always up for a good idea and some trade work!
GlamModelz Magazine: Do you have any thoughts or suggestions to models about wardrobe? Such as what to have and where to find deals? Nichole: Well I think the most important things to have is to make sure BEFORE any shoot, you nails look good, your hair is done (like no roots if you dye or cut if it needs it), try not to have tan lines or a messed spray tan either. These little things drive photographers nuts!
GlamModelz Magazine: What excited you the most when you first started modeling? Nichole: I think the thing that excited me the most, was seeing how beautiful I looked in the pictures. Afters so long of not having any confidence or ever really feeling beautiful on the outside it was the most rewarding experience seeing my self in a whole other way.
GlamModelz Magazine: Facial expressions are a big part of a photo session, how and where did you learn this? Nichole: Facial expressions are such a huge part of a shoot, I simply learned by going through my film with the photographers. Practice make perfect. However, I never did practice in the mirror.
GlamModelz Magazine: Do you feel that flexibility and diversity are important to a model’s portfolio? Nichole: I definitely feel that you should have as many looks in your portfolio as you can pull off. The more looks you have that are diverse from each other the bigger market you have to optimize your work as a model.
GlamModelz Magazine: How do you handle rejection from photographers, agencies and your piers? Nichole: In this Industry, you will get rejected 100 times and get 1 yes. I simply tell myself I am just not what they are looking for at the time. Not everyone has a look that the agency’s are looking for. My look in particular is very unique, some company’s don’t want to go away from the normal, cookie cutter look. I just hope that another company will notice me, my potential and pick me up for the next job!
GlamModelz Magazine: How do you handle imperfections? How important do you feel professional make up is to a model? Nichole: I believe being flawed is part of being human, I know I have flaws and honestly I just embraces them, and feel empowered by them. It’s was makes us unique and sets apparent for everyone else!
GlamModelz Magazine: If you had one thing to tell a model just entering the industry what would that be? Nichole: I think the only thing that I would tell a model entering the industry is to always love yourself, believe in who you are, be confident, and never let others bring you down. This is industry is so superficial, you gotta maintain who you are as person!
GlamModelz Magazine: Nichole, due to the current state of the economy in the U.S. have you noticed any major changes in the industry within your geographical area? Nichole: Quiet Honestly I haven’t been modeling long enough to notice a change in my general area. I am actually more taken by how much work there is in Seattle, WA. But I am constantly on the move, travelings, PRing myself. So i haven’t noticed any change.
GlamModelz Magazine: We have noticed you seam to be branching out into other areas in your modeling. Do you have a style or category you really enjoy shooting? Nichole: I love shooting everything! When I am behind the camera I feel free. Doesn’t matter what I am shooting, I will always have a good time. But I must say I am HUGE fan of less is best! haha!!!
GlamModelz Magazine: Your complexion always looks so flawless. Will you share your beauty secrets you use to keep it that way? Nichole: To be honest, I have no secret. I don’t even wash my face other then when I am in the shower. I eat right now, take my make-up off at night. That’s is!
GlamModelz Magazine: Nichole, your on-line portfolio is quite stunning and exhibits innovative styling; every single photograph is a work of art. Do you plan the shots that you are adding to your portfolio or just shoot what ever you’re feeling at the time? Nichole: Sometimes I plan the shots depending on the project I have in mind. If I just feel like shooting just to too they are spontaneous.
GlamModelz Magazine: Nude modeling is a difficult decision for most models to make as a career choice, what lead you to make that decision? Do you have any regrets about your decision? Nichole: Nude modeling was not a tough choice for me. I feel 100% comfortable with myself. I never understand the stink of nudity! The human body is just beautiful! Lets face it, we are selling our physical looks and image for a living. And as I said I believe we are the canvas for the clients that hire us, we are selling whatever image they are hiring us for.
GlamModelz Magazine: When reviewing photographers online portfolio’s, what grabs your attention? What type of images gets you in the mood to shoot with them? Nichole: I think when I am looking through photographers work, deciding who I am gonna shoot with. Most importantly I look for the inspiration in images. Sometimes you can see the inspiration, but the model in the image was not inspired, so naturally the image was not exactly perfect. But the light, contrast, and angle where good. You can tell a lot about the photographers work, even if the model sucks, that goes both ways. I also research the photographer, look for several places I can find their work. But in my opinion it really comes down connecting with the photographer, if there is NO chemistry in you won’t get good shots period! Doesn’t matter how great the photographer is. If you both aren’t inspired the image will be DULL!
GlamModelz Magazine: It appears to us that most eye candy magazines are fixated on some part of the female anatomy. Tell us what do you think your best assets are? Nichole: Isn’t that the truth? That’s because most of the time Men are the ones buying the Magazines! I think my best assets is my curves, I love them, embrace them, and love to show them off. However, I do think my eyes are right up there with my curves. I believe the eyes are the path to the soul. You can tell a lot about someone with there eyes.
