GlamModel: Stefani Sotelo

Home Contributing Models, Glam Modelz   GlamModel: Stefani Sotelo

stephanie_6281-gmc-copySome models try to combine beauty and sensuality in their journey to fulfill their dreams within the highly competitive modeling industry. Stefani Sotelo, 22, from Santa Clara, California, brings a new degree of professionalism, perspective and can-do attitude to the industry. From that extra sparkle-in-the-eye, to her high energy, passion and creativity that truly shine when she works in front of the camera, she is a pure delight. Some models have to work at being sexy for the camera. Portraying sexy is something she has highly refined! Stefani’s command of body language and facial expressions, blended with her elegant, sophisticated poses, ensure a successful photoshoot. Stefani has also been known to tear up NorCal’s hottest runways with her own flirtatious strut.

Stefani is Drop-Dead Gorgeous, walking in off the street without makeup. She has those unique Bolivian/European facial features and bone structure that I refer to in many of my beauty photography articles. I can hardly wait to shoot some high-end beauty work with her.

Stefani loves the hot stuff, but her gorgeous, refined features and perfect figure makes her perfectly suited for just about anything from commercial fashion to flirtatious glamour. GlamModelz Magazine knows Stefani is going to be taking the NorCal modeling industry by storm and we look forward to following her career as she jets towards super stardom.

How did you get your start in the business Stefani, and what goals have your set for yourself?

stephanie_6183-copy“I use to do modeling as a child and got back into modeling about 3 years ago. When I was ending my first year at the University of San Francisco, I needed extra funds to pay for tuition and my boyfriend suggested that I do some modeling.

When I first started I felt so nervous to be in front of the camera and felt very shy about my personal insecurities but with time I learned to embrace them. My first fashion show that I did was for Avon, it was my first modeling event displaying everything of the Mark brand. It was one of the most terrifying things I did at that point. Right before I was walking down the stage I was nervous with how to move, when to pose, and most of all scared not to fall; once I started walking down I forgot everything and felt a rush of adrenaline; people kept clapping and cheering and I could hear the positive comments which just made me feel so confident.

With the more photo shoots I did the more comfortable I became and found ways to personalize each shoot to make them my own. With practice I not only learned how to improve my work but also found a passion for modeling.

I would love to use my modeling to help women to embrace who they are and to feel comfortable with themselves. There is no point in trying to be like others but find the niche in yourself and make it stand out: “Beauty begins the moment you begin to be yourself”-Coco Chanel.

I may not be the smallest size but that doesn’t make me any less beautiful in my own way. There is always something beautiful about everyone and women need to embrace it. Especially for younger women, it is important to understand that it is not about being the skinniest person or most beautiful on the outside but living a healthy lifestyle and embracing your inner beauty”.

stephanie_6250-copy

stephanie_6167-copyWhat are your goals personally and with your modeling career?

“I just achieved my first goal of graduating from the University of San Francisco this past May. Now I work at Wells Fargo and my goal is to get a promotion to continue growing within the company.

Regarding my modeling career, I have dedicated a lot more time to it and now it is not only another source of income but also my passion!

Modeling has helped me become more confident in myself and also provide me with the opportunity to meet great photographers from who I learned a lot.

I would like to work on more projects to advocate women embracing themselves as well as finding the beauty in nature and other things which most people no longer pay attention to. There is so much beauty around us that I do not think people are as aware of any more.

It is great to look sexy in a photo however; I always want to give something more than that. For example: creating memories, adding personality to the photographs, representing something unique.

Once I read “A picture is worth 1000 words, but a great picture is priceless…” and that really got me thinking; I don’t want people to just go through my pictures, I want them to really stop and think of what the picture represents. My ultimate goal is to make my work “memorable and priceless”.

Posing 101, any suggestions to newer models coming into the business?

“The biggest suggestion that I can give to new models is that you need to always be comfortable with what you’re doing.

You may be asked to do some things which you are not comfortable with. It’s important to know that you do not have to do it if you don’t want to. You are the one who needs to decide what your limits are; it is ok to push a little in order to try a different style. However, if you are just not comfortable then it will definitely reflect in your work.

There is a difference with being nervous and uncomfortable. People may be nervous to start off but it is definitely something that can be overcome. In order to also be comfortable it is always good to talk to the photographer and become comfortable with his/her style as they are the ones you are going to be posing for. A good way to get comfortable is to start shooting while the photographer is testing the light. You want to make sure that both take advantage of every minute you are working together to get the best results. This is also the perfect time to get comfortable with posing in front of the photographer and it also gives the photographer a chance to think of what he or she prefers”.

“I’m cool with other models who wish to shoot implied and/or complete nudity. I do feel the human body is a very beautiful thing, but I personally will not take any photographs that I wouldn’t want my family or friends to see. Besides, swimwear and lingerie leave so much more to the imagination. I love glamour and feeling sexy. Sometimes I wish I could only shoot swimwear, but I seem to do more fashion than anything else. I love fashion, what girl doesn’t? When you spend as many hours a week working on your body as I do mine, you want to show it off. With swimwear you can do that without being completely nude, so it’s the best of both worlds in my opinion.”

stephanie_6208-copy

Do you have any hobbies or special interests that you feel contribute to your success in modeling and why do you feel they are a contributing to achieve your goals?

My experience with acting is reflected in my work; in each photo my audience is able to attain the emotion desired by the photographer. Additionally my Bolivian dancing performance experience helped me in so many ways. I have been in many Dance performances with different folkloric dances in which I needed to represent the folklore and music from my birth country. While dancing you need to really feel the music and connect to it which I feel is similar with feeling the emotion you want to portray in your photos.

Performing also helped me to build public skills and exposing myself to stages making me more confident working in front of an audience and smiling for long periods of time. Both of these past hobbies have helped me to achieve success with my modeling career to create admirable images.

Shooting Bikes & Babes in the Studio

Photographing the Motorcycle in The Studio. “From Lighting to Model Pose: The Intricacies of The Bike Shot” By Rick Trottier, of  RJT Images One of the first great challenges a studio photographer tackles is appropriately composing, lighting and then posing two models in a studio shoot. Dealing with differences in height and body style, hair and skin coloration and finding a way to make this all “work” with an effective pair of poses can be daunting, often exasperating. ...

GlamModel: Sandi

A lot of models have crossed my threshold in the past 40 years. I’m always a bit apprehensive on our first shoot. Stunning young women try to start off the shoot with their best foot forward and set the mood for a successful day. After a while it’s easy to see through this façade and into the inner beauty within. Sandi never fit into that category. From our first meeting I could see her natural ...
